Wivenhoe BASS Electric- 25th July

BASS veteran Barry Oxford made it seven BASS Electric wins
on the weekend with victory in the second Wivenhoe round of the 2010 MotorGuide
BASS Electric Series.

One of only eight anglers to weigh fish in the 30 angler
field Oxford comprehensively
won the event, weigh-in the only full limit and
winning by 2.16kg over his nearest rival Ricky Simmons.

Compiling a 2/2, 4.85kg bag to win the event Oxford followed
the pattern he cracked during a prefish leading up to the event, fishing a 40
to 35 feet deep flat west of McGraths Bay with a combination of blades.

Wivenhoe BASS Electric- 18th July

The first Lake Wivenhoe stop of the 2010 MotorGuide BASS
Electric Series delivered anglers a glimpse of what the venue is capable of,
XOS bass, but for the most part offered anglers frustration and motivation to
turn things around at the next event, next week.

With only 19 fish hitting the scales for the 34 angler field,
competitors had no trouble locating fish with their sounders, getting them to
bite however proved a whole other challenge.

With anglers struggling to find active schools, those who
switched tactic and headed to the edges in search of active fish hunting in the
shallows reaped the benefits. One angler made the most of the edge bite, with
Gold Coast basser Joe Allan breaking through for his maiden BASS Electric win,
with his 1/2, 2.50 kg bag.

Lenthalls Electric July 11

Only eight people arrived to test their abilities against the very inconsistent Lake Lenthall’s, which again got the better of most anglers. Only one fish troubled the weigh master; Tim Steenhuis produced the goods with one fish for 580 grams.

The lone fish was caught on a Jackall Bros TN 60 in pond gill slow rolled on the bottom. This fish also took out Big Bass which makes it the smallest Big Bass in ABT history or so my sources lead me to believe.

1st Tim Steenhuis 1 fish .580 Big Bass .580

Clarrie Hall Electric July 04

Forty-five anglers braved a very chilly start to compete in the July round at the picturesque Clarrie Hall Dam in the Tweed Valley. As the day warmed up and layers of warm clothing were shed, Clarrie Hall lived up to its enigmatic reputation with some anglers finding schools of decent bass and constantly upgrading their livewells while others struggled with smaller fish and some did not trouble the scorers.

Most fish came from downstream and the biggest bass of the day was caught closer to the dam wall than the launching ramp. It seems that there was no one magic system that worked on the day with bass taking soft plastics, vibes, blades and hard-bodies.

MotorGuide Lake Boondooma BASS Pro- Final Results & Story

Tournament fishing unearthed ones of its youngest rising
stars at the MotorGuide presented Boondooma round of the 2010 Quantum BASS Pro
Series, with 16 year old Noosa angler Callum Munro claiming victory over a
talented field of competitors to secure his maiden BASS Pro win.

Compiling a 4/6, 2.70kg limit to secure the win at the third
stop of the five event tour, Munro showed he was one to watch for the future,
with the Berkley wunderkind soundly relegating Quantum bass pro Matt Anderson
(4/6, 2.25kg) to second place, for the second year in a row.

While the event failed to produce a reliable
bite pattern for the majority of the field, it was a comparatively consistent
pattern that Munro cracked during the Friday prefish that delivered him his
richest payday to date on the BASS Pro tour

Wivenhoe Electric- 20th June- Postponed

The BASS Electric event scheduled for this weekend at
Wivenhoe (20th June) has been postponed due to the onwater fatality
during the week and the search for the missing angler's body. The
recreation area will be closed by Seqwater over the weekend and while
there was the option to run it from Hamon Cove we believe it to be more
appropriate to postpone the event as a mark of respect.

The
tendative date we have for a reschedule is Sun 25th July.

The
ranger and myself will be there on Sunday morning at the gate to
intercept anyone that doesn't find out about the postponment before
Sunday. Please spread word to anyone that might be heading out. Regards Simon Goldsmith.

TABS Grand Electric Grand Final

The Tabs Grand Electric has been run and won with 41 competitors battling it out for $3,700 in cash and $1,000 in prizes. Wivenhoe Dam was the rally point for some of the best Electric tournament anglers. With the Speed and range of Combustion engines taken out of the anglers’ bag of tricks, the tournament angler enters a whole new level of fair play & tactics. Your tactical decisions from your pre-rigged lure selection to your primary direction of travel play on your mind right up to the start siren. All these decisions are not helped with all the pre briefing advice and banter dogging your decisions. When the siren goes every anglers mind is fixed on the spot they believe will land them the winning bass as they spread out in different directions. This years winner Glenn White was the angler whom had the formula worked out. Glenn and his Torqeedo raced away from the procession of vessels heading towards Platypus cliffs, a brave move that worked in his favour. In a stroke of genius Glenn worked out early that the deep water bass and jigging wasn’t working. Glenn changed his tactics and fished the edges using his favourite suspending jerk bait a Jackal squirrel in ayu. This change of attack saw his Strudwick 1 to 3 kg Hard Bodz rod bending enough times to secure him victory.

Grech Makes it Two at World Sooty Championship

Eungella lived up to its reputation
for less than perfect weather and red-hot fishing at the 2010 The Meng Group World
Sooty Championships, 2/3rd May.

The major funding raising activity
for the Mackay Area Fishing Stocking Association (MAFSA), the World Sooty
Championship saw 87 keen anglers hit the water for the three angling session
tournament and a chance to do battle with Eungella's infamous sooty grunter.

For event winner Daniel Grech it
was a continuation of his hot tournament form with the 21 year old Engineering
Cadet from Mackay claiming his second World Sooty Championship crown thanks to
his 6/6, 2519cm limit.

Tied on points with event runner up David Certfield
(6/6, 2519mm,) Grech claimed victory on a count back with the 2010 champion
once again opting for deeper water lipless crankbait to fill his tournament
limit.
