Cania Results Feb 6-7

Posted on Monday, February 08 @ 11:09:25 EST by bassadmin

Cania Double header a success

There were high expectations as 29 Anglers headed off to fish the Saturday bass elec at Cania dam. There were first timers who had whose only experience with Cania was watching the episode where AFC visited the dam , and those who regularly fished the dam who had reported good catches when prefishing weeks before. The Cania bass did not dissappoint.

In the first session there were 46 Bass weighed in with Shane Anderson from Bundaberg leading the pack with a 2/2 1.875kg limit and also the Big Bass for the session with a 1.150kg fish. Shane , a BASS Electric regular, had a great 2009 season finishing in the top 10 overall and now has a great start to the 2010 season. Snapping at his heels was another ABT BASS Pro regular Joel Quinlan with his limit of 2/2 1.85kg and he also weighed in the 2nd Biggest Bass at 1.10kg.

Both of these anglers used Jackall Tn60’s in various colors slow rolled off points near the main basin.

With some anglers reporting 20-30 bass boated for the session it looked like finding that elusive big one was the key to success. The field from 1st to 21st was only separated by a bit over 700 grams.

The 2nd event was held on the Sunday morning with a bit of rolling cloud cover the field of 29 anglers headed off at 5.30 am. This was another good session with 42 fish weighed in. ‘Slippery’ Leather - no its not a Bon Jovi song , but rather the nick name for Gary Leather who hit a purple patch in the second event boated five legal fish in a row including a couple of upgrades on white/natural coloured spinnerbaits to take out the event with a 2/2 1.7kg limit including the Big Bass for the session with a 1.00kg bass. Gary is happy to have qualified for the Electric Convention and takes some form into the 2010 season as he placed 3rd in the first Cania event and backed it up by winning the 2nd event.

Glenn Evans was not far behind with his limit of 2/2 1.675kg. Glenn was fishing a point in the main basin using one of the more popular techniques for the weekend - namely slow rolling Jackall Tn60’s. The pair of Dale Ianna and Jonathan Ward are also worth mentioning as they finished in the top 5 in both events- well done.

Thanks to Dave Champness, Tim Mulhall and Gary Leather who helped out with the weigh in and also to all the competitors who made the process run smoothly by their cooperation.
