Clarrie Hall Electric July 04

Posted on Monday, July 05 @ 08:37:16 EST by bassadmin

Forty-five anglers braved a very chilly start to compete in the July round at the picturesque Clarrie Hall Dam in the Tweed Valley. As the day warmed up and layers of warm clothing were shed, Clarrie Hall lived up to its enigmatic reputation with some anglers finding schools of decent bass and constantly upgrading their livewells while others struggled with smaller fish and some did not trouble the scorers.

Most fish came from downstream and the biggest bass of the day was caught closer to the dam wall than the launching ramp. It seems that there was no one magic system that worked on the day with bass taking soft plastics, vibes, blades and hard-bodies.

5 fish were weighed that topped the one kilo mark and competition was very close for both the biggest bag and biggest bass.

Top five places were:
1st Stuart France from Acacia Ridge with 2.09 kilos
2nd Jay Gillespie from Harwood Is. with 2.05 kilos
3rd Pete Bostock from Mororo with 2.04 kilos
4th Dave Trinder from Oxley Island with 1.84 kilos
5th Wayne Blundell from Mudgeeraba with 1.8 kilos

Biggest Bass went to Joe Allan of Ashmore with a fish of 1.29 kilos. This fish came off a point in the lower reaches of the lake close to the dam wall in about 15 to 20ft of water caught on a gold 1/4 ounce Atomic blade.

Winner Stuart France explains how he caught his winning bag.

"I fished a couple points half way down the lake from the start, first point we found bass schooled out in about 20ft I got a few there all on eco gear blades vx35 in ayu and blue gill colour small hops along the bottom and some vertically jigged till those fish shut down moved to the next point and found a good school of better quality fish sitting in 15-16ft close to the lillies doing the same again but using a vx40 in ayu colour got my better fish vertically jigging and a couple hopping, upgrading plenty of times each we boated 20+ fish for a good morning session till about 10.30am when they where harder to tempt. I was using GLoomis 8400 popping rod and Daiwa Sol 2000 spooled with 10lb Sunline Castaway and 10lb Sunline FC rock leader."

Thanks to all the sponsors for the prizes.

The Australian Bass Assoc would like to thank ABT tournaments for there on going Stocking donations .
